BJC Annual Safety Celebration and Health Fair (9/18/2008)

BJC's annual Safety Celebration and Health Fair will be held on Thursday, September 18, in the K-1580 lower parking lot (same location as last year). The Health Fair will start at 9 a.m., and the picnic will begin at 11 a.m. This year's theme takes a cinematic turn with "Safety in the Spotlight."

All attendees will receive a color-changing water bottle and safety sunglasses. You will receive a door prize ticket in your water bottle that could win you one of several door prizes. Instant win coupons for various prizes will also be included in many of the water bottles. Among other things, the instant win prizes include $25 gift certificates to Belk, Target, Wal-Mart, Outback, and several other merchants and restaurants.

The picnic menu includes pork BBQ, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, ice cream, and drinks. In keeping with the movie theme, you will also have the opportunity to stop by one of our popcorn stands for a hot bag of buttered popcorn.

Following are some important notes for the picnic:

  • • Please wear appropriate clothing (i.e., no open-toed or high-heel shoes).
  • • Although activities will be under tents, you could be exposed to sunlight walking to and from the tents. You might want to bring sunscreen if you are sensitive to the sun.
  • • The entire picnic area is a No Smoking area.
  • • If you are handicapped and need assistance to access the picnic area, please contact Carolyn Simcox, 574-9788, by COB September 16 to make arrangements for transportation.

2008 DOE Nuclear Suppliers Outreach Meeting - July 1, 2008

Department of Energy Nuclear Suppliers Outreach - Denver, Colorado
Hyatt Tech Center Hotel
Denver, Colorado
July 31, 2008

Background and Purpose of the Supplier Forum

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM), and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), will be co-sponsoring a Suppliers Outreach event with the Energy Facility Contractors Group (EFCOG) and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) for suppliers interested in providing services and products in the nuclear sector on July 31, 2008 in Denver, CO.

This nuclear suppliers’ outreach event is an excellent opportunity for companies interested in working in the DOE nuclear sector to gain insights into the current and future markets for products and services, and requirements to enter or to continue to work on nuclear projects in the DOE-complex. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to interact directly with senior executives, project managers, and procurement personnel working for DOE and its prime contractors; and, gain insight into Nuclear Quality Assurance program requirements applicable to both the DOE and commercial nuclear industry sectors.

The purpose of this forum is two fold. First, it will help ensure that all EM and NNSA sites have an adequate number of qualified nuclear and non-nuclear suppliers for future projects and programs. Second, it will provide information for suppliers regarding the needs of DOE projects and programs for their products and services in the years ahead. By providing products and services to DOE for its nuclear projects, companies may become qualified to supply similar products and services to the commercial nuclear power industry as the commercial nuclear renaissance in the U.S. and overseas evolves.

Who should attend?

Suppliers who wish to provide their products and services to DOE for its projects and programs for both nuclear and non-nuclear applications. Services, for example, would include safety analysis, engineering, design, and construction. Examples of products include engineered items, piping, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, cables, electrical components, and duct work.

Executives and business development, sales, and marketing professional will find the forum very informative and support potential expansion of their businesses into the DOE and commercial nuclear markets.
