Pollution Prevention and Waste Minimization Award Winners 2007
Pollution Prevention (P2) is a part of the way BJC does business. It is also part of ISMS and EMS and is required by DOE Order and Executive Order, so we have to do it. It is the right thing to do and we're serious about it...but we can make it interesting.
BJC initiated an awards program this year to recognize P2/Waste Minimization achievement among all of the projects. A number of entries were received in a wide variety of categories ranging from Affirmative Procurement (Green Purchasing) to Waste Prevention. Take a moment to view the award plaques, which went to 6 different teams, and to read the descriptions of their awards by clicking on each one. Chances are your program has P2 opportunities just waiting to be explored and put into practice. Even more, your program may already be implementing P2 initiatives and you don't realize it. These ideas and their implementation are important because even though ETTP is a closure site and the overall project is a cleanup (waste-generating) mission, P2/Waste Minimization still applies and is required. An Executive Order issued in January 2007 sets some very aggressive standards and schedules that must be met and will affect the way we do business. Plans for an awards program for 2008 are in the works. If you would like some support in identifying P2/Waste Minimization opportunities for your project, or have ideas and just need some help with refining them, please contact Lesley Cusick, BJC P2 Coordinator (865-241-9440) and schedule a consultation. Think creatively. Decide that you can and will make a difference. Return to the previous page. |
