Ensuring Safe Operation

The TSCA Incinerator operates under rules and regulations issued by DOE, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the State of Tennessee, as well as Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations. Numerous permits issued by these regulators identify specific operating requirements and constraints for operation of the incinerator. The operator develops and follows detailed procedures to ensure safety and compliance with requirements. DOE, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Tennessee provide oversight of the operation.

Periodic tests and evaluations are conducted to ensure performance meets the requirements of the permits and regulations. Copies of the test report are available at area public libraries, as well as the DOE Information Center. assessment of the risks posed by incinerator emissions. Emissions monitoring during routine operations is also used to ensure that requirements are met.

The incinerator complies with new regulations, commonly referred to as Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) standards.
